Charity Production by The International Theatre Studio

For over 20 years The International Theatre Studio has performed in the open air a summer production in aid of a charity. This year they are going to Benahavis to the new Parque Torre Leonera, with the support of The Residents Department of the Ayuntamiento de Benahavis. This is a new and beautiful park with a stage and auditorium, very attractive gardens with a lake and waterfall.

With the proceeds going to CUDECA to help with their hospice, the production is called “FUN in the PARK”, an evening of entertainment. It takes place on Sunday 19th September at 6.30 pm. The first half will be a mixture of music and comedy and then there will be the traditional long interval as the audience is asked to bring with them a picnic to enjoy sitting in the gardens. Then the second half is a comedy play called “Day Trippers” directed by Kate Jackson.

A bar is available before the start, during the interval and after the play. Tickets are €12 and can be obtained from Bookworld Espana (San Pedro and Guadalmina), Costa Cards in Benavista and Longmans Bookshop Estepona or at the door.

Just a warning! The seats are rather hard so you are recommended to bring a cushion

Please come and not only have an enjoyable evening but also contribute to the needs of Cudeca. Further information from 952 81 21 51 or 686 03 13 60

Charity gala in aid of street children 17/07/10

You are invited to attend the first charity event in aid of “Street-O” – the Charity raising money for Philippines’ street children. It is being held on Saturday 17th July at the Gran Hotel Guadalpin, Marbella and featuring great food and entertainment such as the legendary Mel Williams and Wow Factor finalist Becky Tate.

The charity, Street-0, www.streeto.org, was founded in Spain by Raymond Allon. This registered charity has ambitious plans to raise a much needed €750k in order to build communities and provide essential goods and supplies to the deprived “slum kids” who live in inhumane conditions on the streets of the Philippines.

“Our purpose is to raise funds and awareness of the conditions that these slum kids live in. Once you have seen the conditions they live in, it takes a hardened heart to not want to do something, anything, to make a difference in their lives” says Ray, President of StreetO,

Tickets are still available for tables of 10 people, at €100 per head.

If you would like to attend the Gala please contact Laura on 638677755 or email admin@streeto.org

They are also looking for raffle prizes or auction items, offers of sponsorship of the event or donations to the charity.

Help plant trees at CYD Animal Welfare Shelter

The association CYD is an animal welfare centre that takes in mistreated and abandoned horses in terrible condition, and helps them recover. This winter has been particularly hard and there has been damage to the finca, and some horses have suffered terribly.

They are organising an ‘Eco-day’ on Sunday 25 April to help prepare for summer. The main objective is to plant trees at least 2 metres tall so that they can survive the high temperatures and provide shade for the weakest animals. The trees have played a vital role at the centre creating enough shade for the animals to relax under. The horses must get out every day but some cannot move very well due to age or injuries and must rest every few metres.

There are two ways you can help with this important project:

1. Sponsor a tree at CYD - give a horse some shade. For just 30€ you can have a tree planted at the horse sanctuary in YOUR name and help the recovering animals get some much needed cool shade suring the summer months. We will be buying as many trees as possible to plant on our eco-day on Sunday April 25 and your help is appreciated. You can make payment by transfer to: Unicaja 2103 3016 93 0030020269 (La Chispa) and please put as the 'concepto' your name + tree sponsor. Alternatively payment can be made in person at Venta dos Caballos on the Cartama-Coín road. Please leave an envelope with your name and contact number.

2. Come along to the Eco-Day and lend a hand planting!

Manacare Charity Party

Wednesday 14th April at Joy Fahey’s Studio Guadalmina
From 8pm till 12pm.
Buffet, Music, Raffle, and a Manacare Presentation Update.
Tickets are 40 Euros.

Joy Butler Markham, the founder of Manacare, is here in Spain for a few days from Sri Lanka where she has been living for the last 5 years since the Tsunami. She has more than achieved her goal of building a village which many of you helped raise the money for and now facilitates over 1000 men, women and especially children with housing, schooling an on site medical and therapy centre, workrooms and much more. The project is nearly finished and is well on its way to becoming self sufficient. What an incredible achievement! Joy has single handily put this project together and stayed the course to see it through to really making a difference to so many peoples lives.

The Fund Raising Party will help towards the completion of the project, finishing the facility that will train young teenage girls in all domestic work to enable them to work and keep them off the streets.

Many of us have given to the Haiti disaster as we did the Tsunami but rebuilding both buildings and lives takes a long time. Not many people have the staying power to complete the course. In fact Manacare is one of only a very few charities left in Sri Lanka actually on the ground still doing something.

As you may know all money raised for Manacare goes directly to the project, there are no fancy offices, big four wheel drive cars and no staff. Joy does everything herself from her small house in the bush. To find out more about the charity visit http://www.manacare.org/

I am delighted to open my house to having this impromptu party. It will be a fun night with lots of great raffle prizes, and an opportunity catch up with friends and to speak with Joy directly about her work.

Please RSVP ASAP by email joyfahey@gmail.com or call 669 050 254 and I will send you directions. I very much look forward to seeing you

Warmest Regards and Many Thanks
Joy Fahey

ADANA Needs your help

ADANA is an Estepona based animal charity which runs an animal shelter near Los Pedregales Park on the old road to Casares and has been caring for unwanted animals since 1990.

They need our help to stay open and protect their animals, as a combination of circumstances from the bad weather to major appeals for world disasters has cut their income in the last 2 months by over 50%. They have done all that they can to reduce costs, but by the end of this month they will need to raise a minimum of 8.000€ to survive!

If anyone can hold a fundraising event, donate some money, or simply join their 100 Club for 5€ per month you can help the kennel stay open and protect the animals. Visit their website to make a donation or find out more http://www.adana.es/
