Title : Business Ju Jitsu. The Hidden Game of Business!
Scams like Enron, the Junk bonds in the '80's, and the Ponzi scheme perpetrated by Bernie Madoff are very much the result of a basic misconception shared by the business community: that tightly controlled environments are safe from collusion and fraud. Sometimes tight control and malfeasance exist side by side. This occurs when there is pervasive collusion at the highest levels and recent events have demonstrated that such conditions are not the rare,' perfect storms' we assumed them to be. Due to certain quirks in our social wiring, collusion is the stasis towards which corporate environments naturally gravitate. In the absence of specific safeguards designed to keep collusion in check, it will flourish. However, with such checks in place these scams can be caught at an early stage, well before the real damage is done.
This webinar will cover:
• How business/corporate games begin
• The signs that games are in progress
• How to absolutely identify if there is a 'game-in-progress' in your organization using a simple diagnostic tool
• What to do if there is!
About the presenter: John Berling Hardy is a Chartered Accountant who performs audits on numerous Fortune 500 companies. This affords him the opportunity to observe a wide range of corporate environments and provides valuable insights into the internal dynamics of large professional firms.Specifically, it offers him a view into the stratified organizational structure typical of, what he calls, 'The Hidden Game'. The partners (the principles of the firm) occupy the higher strata, while all the remaining levels, from auditor through to the managers, are clustered together in the next rung. And finally, the support staff occupy the lowest strata. This caste system has a profound impact on the corporate culture of any firm, creating an environment which is highly political and aggressively competitive. It doesn't have to be that way!
